Splash Pools are Orca’s streamlined pool creation option. They use full-range liquidity and are designed to reduce the number of configuration choices required when creating a pool.

What are Splash Pools?

Splash Pools are full-range liquidity pools built on Orca’s CLMM infrastructure. They use a full-range position, which can be simpler to create and manage than a custom-range CLMM position.

Splash Pools vs. CLMM Pools

When Splash Pools may be useful

Splash Pools may be useful when:
  • You are creating a pool for a new token
  • You want a simpler full-range liquidity setup
  • You prefer fewer configuration choices
  • You are new to providing liquidity
A CLMM pool may be more suitable when:
  • You want custom price ranges
  • You want to concentrate liquidity within a selected range
  • Your token already has existing market data
  • You are prepared to monitor and manage custom-range positions

How Splash Pools work

Full-range liquidity

Splash Pools use full-range positions:
  • Liquidity spans the full supported price range
  • The position remains in range across supported prices
  • Liquidity is spread across a wider range than a custom-range position
  • Full-range positions may be simpler to manage, but may be less capital efficient than concentrated positions

Position NFTs

Like other Orca liquidity positions, Splash Pool positions are represented by NFTs:
  • You receive an NFT representing your position
  • The NFT proves ownership of the position
  • Fees must be manually harvested unless another feature explicitly supports automation

Fee earnings

Liquidity providers may earn trading fees from swaps that use their liquidity:
  • Fees accumulate in your position
  • Fees can be harvested through the Orca interface
  • Fee earnings depend on trading activity, liquidity share, pool configuration, and market conditions

Creating a Splash Pool

Prerequisites

Before you start:
  1. Both tokens — Have the tokens you plan to deposit in your wallet
  2. SOL for fees — Keep SOL available for transaction fees and any required account costs
  3. Initial price — Decide the starting price for the pool
  4. Token metadata — Prepare the token name, symbol, and logo if you plan to submit token information for review

Step-by-step guide

Step 1: Navigate to pool creation

  1. Go to orca.so/create-pool
  2. Connect your wallet
  3. Click Create Splash Pool

Step 2: Select your token

  1. Click Select Token
  2. Enter your token’s name, symbol, or mint address
  3. Select the token you want to use
Default pairing: Your token pairs with SOL by default. Custom pairing: Click the SOL label to select a different paired token.

Step 3: Set initial price

Enter the starting price for your token. Option A: Use an estimated price
  • Orca may show an estimated price from available sources
  • Review the estimate carefully before using it
  • Check that the price matches your intended starting pool price
Option B: Enter a custom price
  • Type the starting price manually
  • This may be used for new tokens without available market data
The initial price determines where trading begins. If the initial price differs from wider market prices, trading or arbitrage activity may change the pool price after creation.

Step 4: Enter deposit amount

  1. Enter the amount for one token
  2. The other amount is calculated based on the starting price
  3. Review both deposit amounts and confirm you have sufficient balance
The amount of liquidity you provide can affect price impact and trading conditions for swaps through the pool.

Step 5: Preview and confirm

  1. Click Preview Pool
  2. Review all parameters:
    • Token pair
    • Initial price
    • Deposit amounts
  3. Read the warning message carefully
  4. Check the acknowledgment box
  5. Click Create Pool

Step 6: Approve transactions

  1. Approve the first transaction to initialize the pool
  2. Approve the second transaction to deposit liquidity
  3. Wait for confirmation before closing the page

Step 7: Pool activation

After creation:
  • The pool may take time to appear in the Orca interface
  • Trade and Provide Liquidity buttons may appear grayed out until indexing is complete
  • Once indexed, pool actions become available in the interface

After creating your pool

Verify your pool

  1. Search for your token on orca.so
  2. Confirm the pool appears in the interface
  3. Review the pool details, token pair, and starting price

Token List warning

If your token shows a warning triangle:
  • The token may not be on the Orca Token List
  • Trading may still be available, but token display information may be limited
  • You can submit token information for review: Orca Token List

Add rewards optional

Pool creators can add token rewards for liquidity providers.
  • Rewards can be used to distribute additional tokens to eligible liquidity providers
  • Reward outcomes depend on participation, pool conditions, and reward configuration
  • Learn about adding rewards

Pool creation checklist

Initial price

  1. If market price data exists, compare the starting price against available external sources
  2. For new tokens, review the starting price against your intended token launch parameters
  3. Review carefully before confirming, because the initial pool price cannot be edited after creation

Initial liquidity amount

Liquidity affects price impact and trading conditions. Lower-liquidity pools may experience higher price impact.

After launch

After creating a pool, you may choose to:
  1. Submit token information for review: Orca Token List
  2. Add token rewards for liquidity providers: Adding Rewards
  3. Review external listing or verification processes: CoinGecko, Jupiter
  4. Share pool information with your community

Troubleshooting

Pool not showing

  • Wait a few minutes for indexing
  • Refresh the page
  • Clear browser cache
  • Verify that the transaction succeeded on Solscan

Transaction failed

  • Check SOL balance for transaction fees and any required account costs
  • Review token amounts and balances
  • Network congestion or changed pool conditions may cause transactions to fail
  • Review the transaction details before trying again

Wrong initial price

If the initial price was set incorrectly:
  • Trading or arbitrage activity may change the pool price
  • You cannot edit the initial pool price directly after creation
  • You may choose to create a new pool with a different starting price
  • You may choose to remove liquidity from the existing pool
