How to trade on Orca

Please select the appropriate tab below, for the direction of your trade. If you are new to Solana, see the New to Solana? tab.

Trade

1. Connect wallet to Orca

   1. On Orca's home page, click Connect wallet.

      On desktop devices the Connect wallet button can be found:

      • Centrally, under the trading modal

      • Bottom left of the screen

      On smaller screened devices the Connect wallet button can be found:

      • Centrally, under the trading modal

      • By select the fish/NFT at the top right of your screen

   2. Select your wallet from the list, or free type its name in the box.

   3. Click Connect.

   4. Enter your password in your wallet to unlock your wallet and connect.

2. Trade on Orca Your wallet is connected and you are can trade.

   1. In the trade modal select the token you wish to pay with (sell) and the token you wish to receive (buy), by clicking on the token in the modal (Image 1).

   2. Select the token, or search using the token name, ticker, or mint address.

   3. Enter the number of tokens you wish to pay with or receive in the corresponding field (Image 2), alternatively you can select half or max to use that portion of your payment token balance.

   4. The trade modal will display a quote for your trade, you can also use the drop down arrow, (Image 3) to view granular details for your trade.

   5. (optional) Orca will dynamically adjust slippage tolerance, if you want to adjust slippage manually you can do by clicking on the cog symbol at the top right (see Understanding Slippage)

   6. At the bottom of the modal, is displayed the price fro your trade if you executed it on Jupiter, compare the two and select the appropriate Trade when you are ready.

   7. In your wallet check the details of the trade, and if happy click Approve.

   8. The UI will display the progress of your trade before showing you a confirmation.

New to Solana?

Create a Solana wallet To use Orca, you need a supported Solana compatible wallet, you can find a list of compatible wallets here. Orca is a decentralized protocol that facilitates trades on Solana, as Orca is non-custodial when you trade tokens the protocol will interact directly with your wallet.

1. Get some SOL Orca is built on the Solana blockchain, so you need SOL in your wallet to pay network fees. Transactions may fail if you do not maintain a minimum balance of 0.05 SOL. To obtain some SOL either:

   1. Purchase SOL on a centralized exchange of your choice, or...

   2. Purchase SOL through a fiat on-ramp service, these are integrated into some wallets.

2. (optional) Move SOL to your wallet If you went for the centralized exchange option you need to move the SOL to your wallet. The exact methods vary wallet to wallet but typically involve the following.

   1. Click Deposit or Receive.

   2. Select/find SOL.

   3. Copy/scan the deposit address.

   4. Use this address to withdraw your SOL from the centralized exchange.

      Important: confirm that the deposit address is correct and the selected withdrawal method is Solana SPL. It is sensible to test with a small amount first.
